Christmas Memories by Cindy

Why are the holidays the “Most Wonderful Time of the Year?”  We spend time with our family and friends, and this is the time where the most wonderful memories are created.

Just the other night, my family and I went to go pick out a tree.  We went to this really fun place where there were lots of different activities for the family to do.  Now, before I go on with how everything went there, I first would like to say that it was on Friday night and my husband thought I was nuts for wanting to go on a busy weekend night.  After all, we are exhausted come Friday and I have to admit that staying home and putting on a Christmas video was a little enticing.  But this was a perfect night and, after some persuading, we were off as a family on our fun-filled adventure to pick out a tree and have some fun with friends.

As we were heading out of the house with our four children in tow, some fighting and arguing already occurring, I couldn’t help but ask, “Is this all worth it?”  Why, of course it is!  Creating memories and creating holiday traditions go hand-in-hand, even with the occasional bickering occurring.

There were two main goals for the evening.  Goal #1-Find our family a great Christmas tree (which we absolutely did), and Goal #2- Have some fun and create memories.

Again, we succeeded.  There were so many fun things for our family to do there.  There were climbing and play structures on which to run around and play.  We saw reindeer, the kids saw and talked to Santa Claus, we all went on a fun hayride through a beautiful light display and the kids even got to play in some snow!  Our family honored some of our traditions as well as created some great memories that night.

My most cherished memories as a child are the memories I have with my family around the holidays: my family picking out our tree and decorating it together; making sugar cookies with my mother and everyone helping to decorate them; making fudge, caramel popcorn balls and all the other goodies we would pass out to our friends, family and neighbors.  And, of course, shopping and helping to pick out gifts for loved ones and friends.  This is what I hope to create with my own family now; memories they will cherish forever.  Memories they will turn into their future family traditions.

I love creating our own traditions :) And keeping some from when we grew up too. A mix is the best way to go :)

We just use a fake tree. How boring and lame. We’re totally missing out!
