Health and Wellness, by Guest Blogger Rose

Health and wellness, meet your match…

The Oxford English Dictionary defines health and wellness as…

No I’m just kidding, lol!

Health and wellness is a favorite subject of mine.  With my dad being a body builder and my mom an herbaholic and both of them addicted to all things organic, it was only natural for health and wellness to be my forte.
I grew up eating the best foods, taking all the right herbs,
being active and exercising.  I had a weight room in my basement ready to use anytime I wanted.  My goal was always to be fit.

My husband (I like to call him Superman), on the other hand, did not grow up with such an abundance of organics, herbs, and exercise advice.

He grew up on Stoufers dinners, potato pellets, and exercise taking a back seat to everything else.
Well, alright it probably wasn’t that bad.  His family has always been active playing sports, but….it wasn’t as healthy as what I grew up with.

Here is the kicker.

Superman very, very, rarely gets sick.

He can wake-up at the crack of dawn or even earlier, work a full day at the office doing a two person job, then work on his real estate business in the evening, and still find time to mow the lawn and help a neighbor move without even being winded.

Meanwhile on that same day, I could sleep in until ten, barely able to drag myself out of bed.  Then I’d catch the first illness that happened to pass my way and be ready to go back to bed before noon.
Okay, I’m probably exaggerating that too, but only slightly!
(I rarely take naps during the day.  Far too busy ;) )
Health and wellness is a tricky business, and although diet and exercise have A LOT to do with it, I think it often has more to do with genetics than we like to think.

Don’t get me wrong though.  Exercise can do wonders for your overall wellness.

A good diet can do wonders for your overall health.
Sometimes though (like in my case), your problems are just in your genetic makeup.
You have to be able to accept that.
I have to accept that I will always be weaker than Superman.
I am okay with that.

But,

and this is the important part,
just because I may be weaker doesn’t mean I am not going to try.

I am going to work harder and be more determined because I am motivated to be strong and energetic and healthy and well.
When I am motivated like this I am happier.
When I am happier I enjoy my workouts.
I enjoy eating good wholesome foods and making sure my body is getting what it needs.

Does it solve all of my problems?  No!

But it makes them easier to deal with.
And it makes them less of a problem.
I may still be tired and I may catch every illness,
but with a positive attitude life is livable and enjoyable and I can laugh my way through the tough stuff.
That is why I exercise.  That is why I eat right.
That is why health and wellness are my forte.
It makes me happy!
And when Mama’s happy, everyone is happy
;D

So here is the deal.

Eat, but eat wisely.
Drink, but not alcohol ;D
Exercise, but make it fun and enjoyable.
Most of all, DON’T STRESS!!!
It’s my belief that bad stress will do more harm to your health than eating a 1/2 gallon of ice cream would; and drowning that stress in alcohol will only make it worse.
SO DON’T SKIMP OUT!
DO THE WORK, FEEL THE HEAT, ENJOY THE RESULTS TO THE FULLEST!
Of course this is just my humble opinion.

I agree with you Rose that health my be in the genes. Not in mine. I have to work at it but I liked your positive thoughts. Thanks for your comments.
