Grandparents by Sharon

It is absolutely wonderful to be a grandparent.  We love them from the moment we first meet.  We only have two granddaughters for now.  We are waiting anxiously for a new grandson to arrive in November.  Being a grandparent is just so easy and simple – you can simply just adore and love them all you can.

It is a unique position because you are not involved in the day to day responsibilities, mishaps or frustrations.  When you have your time with your grandchildren you can focus on them and enjoy the unique little people they are.  Grandparents can be positive influences in their grandchildren’s lives.  They can teach a skill, share stories about family, create family traditions, read a good book or simply just play with them.

As a child I remember my grandmother as being so full of energy and positivity.  She had a sparkle in her eye and was always so happy to see me.  She would spread her arms wide and give me a welcoming hug.  My grandmother always had something nice to say to me – she would compliment my hair or the color of my sweater or praise my piano playing.  Her love and example meant so much to me.  I wanted to do well because she was so loving and kind to me.  I am grateful for the example she taught me to be a positive wonderful grandma.

My husband has such a sweet spot for his granddaughters.  He will even play Barbies with them!  When Cameron sees her grandpa it is all him!  It goes like this – “Grandpa, will you hold my hand, will you read me a book, will you tell me a story?”  When she was young she did not like anyone feeding her, BUT she would eat for her grandpa.  He is so sweet and kind with her.  She adores him and he adores her.  Of course he adores Abby just as much – but there is something between Cameron and grandpa.  Maybe Cameron just needs that, being the second.  You know how it is always being second!

What can I say – being a grandparent is GRAND!

I agree. Grandparenting is the best. I think we learn to be in the here and now, almost like we did as children.
